Sephiroth chuckled under his breath at the sight of such chaos unfolding before him...Cloud was no threat, he was a meer corpse now...only with treasure inside of his torso. He could easily be pursued, so the one winged angel chose to ignore him....for now. Kadaj was the main problem here though. The one and only hazphard to...well...whatever it was Sephiroth was plotting. Even if Kadaj was engaged in combat with another, a certain Turk, he wouldn't care if he accidently hit him instead of his target. The puppet was a traitor, and all traitors to Sephiroth must die. Slowly and painfully.
Just as he waved the blade into it's usual offensive position, ready to launch an attack, the white haired monster was interrupted by the soft voice of a young lady behind him. A voice he recognised. And a name, delivered with her request, that he also recognised. The name of an old ally he met a few moments ago.
"And why should I give you that information?" he teased, giving off the sign that he knew what Aerith wanted and that he had the information...but needed convincing to hand it out to her. After all, she did just interrupt an execution swing on Kadaj. An attack that requires the element of surprise. An element she stripped him of. If Kadaj wasn't expecting an attack he would be now, especially with the one winged angel still stood in his offensive stance.
"Give me a reason, any reason...as to why I should tell you where Zack is?" he chuckled again, easing his offensive stance, appearing calm and uninterested in attacking. But that was just a front he put up, to hide the thoughts of his next move...Sephiroth was unpredictable...and that's what made him extreamly dangerous. Especially to young flower girls who ruined his previous plans, stood in the open and pretty much defenceless.
"...if you cannot give me a reason, then leave me to finish cleaning my hands of traitors and be on your way..." he smirked, closing his eyes and contemplating the moment...he could feel the fear in the air, especially from those who felt his wrath once before already. But as he would expect Aerith to be, calm and casual, he chose to turn things up a notch to spark a little excitement. Instantly he swung around and aimed Masamune toward Aerith, a glimmer of light caught his eyes and reflected the image of his blade as he 'toyed' with Aerith...as if threatening her.
"...lie to me, and I'll impale you again. Only this time, in front of you...so I can look into your eyes as you die."

Frieden followed through with his swing, but his scowl deepened the slightest when he found that his attack had been avoided. It was not unexpected, but it annoyed him to know that such beautiful form could be so easily evaded. Straitening from his prior position, he adjusted his glasses and entered a stance; left foot to the front, right foot to the back, Tenrai centered and held at a slant by both hands. Kadaj, as expected, only made a goading gesture. Frieden was not one to give in to such arrogant taunts, but at the moment his job was to occupy this man’s attention and divert the threat from President ShinRa. As such, he rushed right into it.
Without a sword, Frieden had expected Kadaj to counter with Materia or some such magic. Even without these expectations any man would be surprised to find a multitude of pack animals spring from the ground and return your charge. The Turk skidded to a stop for a brief moment, his eyes shifting between the individual creatures as they hung in the air, ready to plummet and rip the meat from his bones. This was to count them.
Frieden slashed up, as he had done with Kadaj, as the first came down. He was satisfied to find the beast easily cut through and reduced to a black cloud on death. The beasts are numerous, but they do not require much to be killed. He twirled Tenrai in a horizontal arc, cleaving through two more as they came down. One landed short off to the side and lunged to make up for its error. The Turk gripped the thing by the face and entered a handstand, narrowly avoiding both its attack and an charge from another. A third beast leaped to remove him, but Frieden prepared for this. He stabbed through the oncoming one with his one hand, then rolled off the Shadow Creeper he had mounted and opened its stomach. Using the momentum of this spin to return to his feet, Frieden sidestepped the last of his enemies and intercepted its lunge with Tenrai, clotheslining it and cutting it down the middle.
Having finished his foes with greater ease than he had expected, Frieden’s gaze returned to Kadaj. Glaring from the corner of his eyes, he adjusted his glasses with one finger. In a way, this was his own taunt. He had no time to see the result though, for none other than Sephiroth opted to make his entrance.
The swordsman knew when he was outmatched, and would not take the famous Soldier if he could help it. However, he may have to if he decided to engage Rufus. He looked back to his boss, awaiting orders.

What did Kadaj care if Frieden took out his Shadow Creepers? He could summon any number of the beasts, and, if it was necessary, he would keep doing so until the sword-weilding Turk had completely exhausted himself cutting each and every one of them down. Of course, he mustn't allow himself to get too distracted by Frieden - that was, without question, exactly what the Turks were intending - Tseng, after all, was already trying to run off with his prize.
While Frieden was preoccupied with the pack of Shadow Creepers, Kadaj had begun to circle the battle, heading towards where Souba lay on the ground... and closer to Rufus and Aerith, Tseng and the unconcious man he held in his arms... Cloud would not be leaving Junon with those Materia still in his chest, the remnant was determined of that.
He retrieved his twin-bladed weapon, having to use his right hand rather than his damaged left hand, and was starting to advance towards Tseng and the others when a sudden, very definite sensation washed over him. Sephiroth... Sephiroth was here... This time it was in no way vague, as it was when he had sensed the one-winged angel within Cloud. He hesitated, glancing around with what seemed almost to be open fear and loathing. Could Sephiroth tell that he had taken one of the shards for himself?
Even though he had sensed the one-winged angel long before he had seen him, when Sephiroth seemingly fell from the sky and landed on the street nearby, Kadaj still almost leapt out of his skin He backed away warily, his expression defiant as he squared his shoulders and tried - and failed - to appear as though Sephiroth's presence did not concern him in the slightest.
He glanced across at Aerith in what could only have been surprise as the Cetra actually tried to ask Sephiroth a question. Foolish girl, and Kadaj knew that Sephiroth wasn't going to answer the question. Nobody demanded anything of Sephiroth. She had, however, quite clearly just distracted Sephiroth from trying to kill him, so he supposed he should be grateful. Narrowing his eyes irritably, he headed towards Tseng and Cloud, determined to retrieve the last two shards before the one-winged angel thought to exert the control of the puppet-master on him. The memory of having no control over his own body was a disturbing one, and it served to augment his loathing of the man whom he was nothing more than one small part of.

Before Pledge could even move to stop Kadaj's attack on Aerith, there was a gunshot, and the silver-haired man had dropped his weapon. A lot of things happened then, all at once, and it left him utterly bewildered. He felt that, in some way, he should make himself useful, even though the only thing that really came to him at that moment was darting in to drag the unconcious Reno away from the battlefield.
Pledge could not help but feel that he was entirely out of his depth here. From his self-enforced solitary lifestyle to being caught up in the centre of what seemed to him like utter chaos... He wasn't sure who was who or what was going on, and he could do little more than hover uncertainly in the background, unwilling to make a move that he might regret later. Leaving Reno well out of the range of any stray magic attacks (or the risk of accidentally being trodden on), Pledge returned to his position at the edge of the battle, keeping vigilant for any possible chance to be of assistance.
Then, a new individual made his entrance. Even before Aerith had spoken Sephiroth's name, Pledge knew in his gut that this was the man Nanaki had spoken of. There was something about him that inspired fear and awe, even if you knew nothing about who or what he was. Indeed, Pledge had absolutely no idea of the one-winged angel's power, or what he was capable of.
He knew one thing, though. Aerith and Cloud were friends of Nanaki's. And even on his short journey with Aerith, from the grasslands outside Kalm to here, with him being his usual antisocial self, he had found it impossible to dislike her. On the journey, he had felt it his responsibility to protect her - as though he had been some kind of hired bodyguard. There was no reason why, now they had reached their destination, that responsibility should be nulled, and indeed not now there was a greater risk than ever.
So when Sephiroth threatened Aerith, Pledge moved without thinking, placing himself directly between the silver-haired man and the girl with a determination that he certainly did not feel on the inside. He said nothing, only dropping quickly into a defensive stance and raising the halberd-like weapon into a guard, glancing over his shoulder at Aerith as though making sure he was doing the right thing.
What was he thinking? He wasn't entirely sure himself. But if he wished to die, he was certainly going the right way about it.

Sephiroth shrugged once a certain male blocked his new target from view, the being was new to him...and he hadn't the slightest idea of how to act towards him. But that was before he narrowed his eyes...searching the male mentally; to see if he was a threat or not...or a possible new puppet of his. Both searches ended in dissapointing results. The youngster was no threat and probably wouldn't even prove a decent warm up, well, from what he felt that is. The one winged angel couldn't help his curiosity, he had to see if this newcommer was serious about defending the Cetra...or if he had a deathwish. Bring upon a fate, which he would not do. If someone wished to die Sephiroth would just beat them and torment them...leaving the victim to dwindle in pain and suffering...death was a repreive from suffering and torment. And now that he had everything he wanted right around him, he beleived tormenting people right now would prove somewhat entertaining.
"So the Cetra entrusts her life in the hands of another drawn-out man...once again...haven't you caused enough trouble with those you hire as bodyguards?" Sephrioth teased, easing his threat on Aerith...before swinging his blade in the direction of Kadaj...just to let the remnant know he was still not done with him.
"Thinking of finishing off the blonde, are you?" Sephiroth began, a deep growl in his voice. He narrowed his jade-eyes, the pupils becomming entirely cat-like and somewhat feral, as the one winged angels blood began to boil in irritance and anger. The remnant's job was to retreive the shards and bring them back to HIM, not impale them in himself. Cloud was stupid enough to do that, and he'll pay for doing so later. The blonde was careless and didn't know the side-effects to the black materia. It drives images into your head over time, and if you are weak minded it can drive you to madness. But it also seems to call to you, burn within your very being, and slowly eats away at you...stripping you of your emotions and independant thought. That was all Cloud would experience, he didn't have the whole peice of materia within him and was very weak...physically and mentally weak. Sephiroth could absorb the energy without any hassle, and Kadaj? He expected the same for him. And that's what made him angry, that his remnant could become a traitor and get away with it so easily.
"Why don't I ensure you remember your place, puppet!?"

Aerith needed no protection from the one winged angel, she hated him teasing her with mocking words though. When Pledge stepped in front to defend her, willing to give up his life to save her from certain death a flashback came to her mind.It was of Cloud,he also was willing to do everything in his power to keep her from harm. Then when Sephiroth impaled her,he felt it was his fault she died and wanted to be forgiven.
"Pledge thank you for trying to protect me,your as brave as Cloud was when I first met him".
She sidestepped and walked past Pledge narrowing her eyes at Sephiroth, her question would be answered no matter what she had to do.But her eyes returned to normal when she watched Kadaj heading towards Tseng and Cloud,no he she couldn't allow him to get those last two shard in Cloud otherwise he would join the lifestream.
"Tseng please take Cloud and go,you must all leave otherwise you will all die".
She turned her gaze back to Sephiroth,if he impaled her again then so be it.She was never one to lie and not about to begin, what was important is finding Zack and making sure the white materia was in safe hands or still hidden in the ancient city.
"The reason I wish to know where Zack is,is because he may have the white materia my mother left to me".
Perhaps Sephiroth didn't know, when he stabbed her the ball in her hair that clinked and disappered into the water that day was the white materia. And since then it had been hidden in the city of the ancients, but if Zack had found it then he would keep it safe and only if she could get his location out of Sephiroth.
"Leave Kadaj alone, stop using people as your puppets Sephiroth. You've been blind and lied to all these years, thinking Jenova was your mother".[/size]

Rufus observed the exchange between Aerith and the ex-Soldier of much fame. His attention arrived at Frieden, who had made short work of the Shadow Creepers the remnants were famed for summoning. Such monsters were not enough for the Turk, it seemed. But that did not make a difference anymore. They had to leave, regardless of what might happen here. If but a single piece of the Black Materia could be kept from those who sought it, it would be a great step in Gaia’s future. The President called Frieden off with a twitch of his head, then turned back to the helicopter and made a single motion with his hand.
Two of his employees emerged from the flying craft, making a rush for the blond body. They had automatics slung over their shoulder, but most likely would not have the chance to use them if they had to haul Cloud into the craft. Rufus had not thought to have them bring a stretcher, sadly, but they should do nonetheless. He also realized with a start that Reno was still on the ground. With an exasperated sigh, he indicated the unconscious Turk to the third free hand, so that the idiot might be drug to safety rather than left to die at the hands of these silver-haired nutjobs.

(gonna make this quick, haven't got long on today. And that bit about Reno made me laugh. XD )
Sephiroth smirked once he heard Aerith's voice come back to his ears, turning to face the girl who was determined to find Zack...and the item he was carrying. The white materia.
"Zack does have the white materia, I felt it when I met him." Sephiroth teased, purposely leaving out the raven-haired beasts past location to drag-out further mocking attempts.
"He wouldn't give it to me though." he muttered under his breath dryly, sounding slightly angry at what he just said to himself. How did he let a weaker being such as Zack fool him? Those questions he threw out to Sephiroth really where mind games...it threw him off track and made him forget to interrogate Zack.
"And what is it to you, with what I do with MY puppets!?" Sephiroth growled angrily, trying his best to keep his temper down. His anger was soon eased once out of the corner of his eye, he caught Cloud being hauled into the ShinRa helicopter, a smirk on his lips and a gentle laugh under his breath. In a split second, Sephiroth aimed Masamune back at Kadaj.
"So much as set foot near the blond, and I will cut you down. Puppy."

As Kadaj advanced on Tseng, Sephiroth’s voice stopped him in his tracks. Glancing over his shoulder, his pupils were narrowed to cat-like slits, wild with anger and hatred… mirroring Sephiroth’s exactly. ‘Remember his place?’ Oh, he knew his place, and it wasn’t taking orders off someone who was no better than him.
Aerith continued to distract Sephiroth, however, and Kadaj was only too happy to take advantage of that. He turned back to Tseng as the Turk handed Cloud’s lifeless body to two ShinRa employees. The remnant’s eyes narrowed. The Turks were not about to escape with his prize. He threw out his left arm, but the ball of fire that shot from his palm flew straight past the two men who were carrying Cloud… directly at Rufus’s helicopter.
There was a shriek of distressed metal… and an instant later, in a flash of flames, the aircraft exploded, showering the Junon main street with shrapnel.
Lifting an arm to shield his face, from the heat and light and flying scraps of metal, Kadaj gave a short, cruel laugh. But before he could take another step, something Sephiroth said drew his attention once more, and he whirled about to face the one-winged angel.
“I am not your puppet!” he shouted over Sephiroth's words and the roar of fire, his voice strained with barely-controlled rage. “I only belong to mother! If you defy me, then you defy her!”

She knew it,Zack did have the white materia so he was keeping it safe.Aerith was relieved to know it would be kept safe awhile longer more, but he still didn't give the location of where Zack was.But if he had the white materia then the only place he could be,was the ancient city but she didn't want to run there and not find him.
"Zack is smarter then you Sephiroth,he wouldn't be so foolish as to just hand over the white materia".
Her words we're disrupted by the sudden shriek of twisting metal, then from behind her she felt the heat of flames.Quickly looking over to Kadaj, she then turned herself completely around to see the debris of the helicopter scattered among the streets of Junon.Aerith gasped hoping no one was killed or injured, she couldn't believe that remnant.
"You are nothing but a puppet Kadaj, one who has no feelings for others.Jenova is nothing but a foul and evil being, she makes the planet suffer and cry out".

"Only a puppet would come up with such an excuse." Sephiroth snorted, sickened by Kadaj's childish nature. Aerith was just asking for him to stab her again after hearing her comment on his foolishness. She had a point, but he wasn't going to let her know that he agreed with her. Instead, he chose to flash that same look of uninterest at her...to give her the image that he didn't care. His main focus right now was Kadaj.
"Either hand your shard over, or I'll MAKE you give it to me."

Both Aerith and Sephiroth's words seemed to hit Kadaj with real force. Dropping his gaze to the ground, a small smile grew on his face - a bitter, slightly twisted, completely insane kind of smile, which, in some strange way, was full of regret.
"I know I'm only a puppet, but I don't care, not if I can be useful to mother," he muttered, staring down blankly at the blood dripping from his injured hand. Somehow, he didn’t seem convinced by his own words. But then his eyes narrowed, and he lifted his gaze to glare at Aerith, the savagery and loathing clear on his face once more.
“I don’t care about this planet. It brings us nothing but suffering. From the very beginning, it’s tortured us… and I hate it.” Kadaj’s voice was taut with emotion, shaking slightly. As he was speaking, he had lifted Souba in his right hand, pointing the twin-bladed weapon at Aerith as though to enforce his words. Now, he let the hand fall to his side again, tilting his head to one side.
“Mother’s plans will mean the death of this planet,” he stated, a hint of childish glee creeping into his tone once more. “And in order for those plans to become reality… I need the Black Materia…” His gaze moved from Aerith to Sephiroth as he raised his bloodied left hand and placed it on his chest, above where he had embedded the shard, defiance burning in his eyes.
“I need all the pieces. One way or another, I’ll collect all of them together. I will fulfil mother’s wishes, and take my revenge on the planet, both at the same time. I won’t let anyone stand in my way.”

Sephiroth narrowed his eyes, the remnant surely was cutting his strings...much like Strife had done previously. With that being the case, Kadaj was more of a threat than a use.
"You...need nothing...and your revenge? Don't you mean my revenge that YOU are trying to steal?" Sephiroth snarled, drawing Masamune into an offensive stance once again. The one-winged angel had to dispose of the potential threat between him and re-contact with mother jenova. Lunging himself towards the remnant, his hulking frame thrown forwards in almost an instant, Sephiroth made sure his onslaught wasn't going to be disturbed again...this time, he'd hit. For a second, all Sephiroth could hear was the wind blowing and the flames in the environment crackling...until his blade met Kadaj's right shoulder. Upon the impaling of the blade through the shoulder, Sephiroths eyes twitched...cringing at the sound of his blade scraping against bone...and the memories of what it was like for him to be stabbed there too. Once he was satisfied with the attack, Sephiroth decided to withdraw Masamune...but it seemed to be slightly stuck, causing him to literally kick Kadaj in the gut to get the sword out.
Much like any victim he impaled the legendary sword into, the blood simply dripped off like oil...and once again Masamune looked brand new.
"I have better things to do with my time rather than teach puppets their place! The white materia is my priority and if you so much as impale one more shard into your torso I will cut it right out!" Sephiroth hissed, withdrawing Masamune and opening his wing.
"...and then I'll drown you like the puppy you really are." With those last words, Sephiroth turned away from kadaj and took off skyward. He was right...he didn't have time to mess with his puppets. If they caused too much trouble he'd kill them. He was literally giving Kadaj 1 chance to change his mind, but deep down...he knew the remnant would continue his rebellion. But then again, he could easily ambush the puppet later and finish him off.
Injury is a better form of punishment, suffering beggens death.

"You forget, I am you," Kadaj purred, smiling that insane kind of smile once more. "I am your cruelty."
And it was him that the planet was torturing, not Sephiroth. Sephiroth was born as part of this planet, even if he bore Jenova's cells. Kadaj was nothing but a remnant of that alien matter; there was hardly anything human left in him. He could find no respite from the planet's persecution, the constant pain, the torment of his mind. It was his revenge. No one else's.
But before he could argue that point, the one-winged angel had lunged at him, and with Souba in his right hand, his weak side, as his sword hand was unusable, he had no hope of countering. He made to sidestep, but Sephiroth was far too fast, and Kadaj made an odd, strangled sound of pain as Masamune pierced his shoulder, cutting through flesh and bone alike.
Once again, Souba clattered to the ground, but beyond that, Kadaj did not move. He could not; the pain that shot through his body was paralyzing. His eyes were unfocused, staring through Sephiroth rather than at him, his expression frozen in one of blank surprise.
Then Sephiroth's foot connected with his gut as the one-winged angel drew Masamune from his shoulder, and Kadaj crumpled, dropping to his knees with little more than a gasp. His hand was shaking as he lifted it to cover the wound, but his head was bowed, his face hidden by his hair, and his expression, therefore, completely unreadable. It was impossible to tell whether he had even heard Sephiroth's next words, and he did not look up as the puppet-master left.
His right hand was flat on the ground in front of him, holding him upright. In the silence after Sephiroth's departure, the hand closed into a fist, so tight that it shook with tension. Though whether that was against the pain, or against his anger, was uncertain.

Rufus watched, silent, as the confrontation between Kadaj and Sephiroth escalated severely. He had ordered his men to try for the second helicopter, taking advantage of the brief loss in attention against them. Rufus himself, however, had not yet moved. In all honesty, he couldn’t. Not yet, anyway. If the entire pack was seen headed for the chopper, Kadaj would notice it and do with it what he had done with the last one. Considering Cloud’s present physical state and the urgency of what his body contained, there was no time to put if off.
Rufus stood strong, with Frieden and Tseng on the flanks once again. The president had found himself in a most precarious scenario once again, and he would definitely require their help to get out of it. He had stood down Kadaj once, but there were many circumstances behind his survival. The man had been more focused on the plummeting remains of his precious “mother”, and Rufus himself would have fallen to his death if Tseng and Elena had not made a timely entrance. Without those two factors up his sleeve, this situation was infinitely more hazardous to him. To everything.
“Tseng, Frieden. I must request something rather difficult of you.” He paused, as it to provide dramatic effect. A gust of wind blew through the scene, rustling his bleach hair and jacket identically. Never once did he actually look toward either Turk. His stare remained upon Kadaj, his confident smirk set in. “I must request that you leave us alone for a moment.”
There was, of course, more that the president wanted done. As he said this, he adjusted the collar of his jacket with one hand, jerking it to the right ever so casually. This gesture was aimed towards the helicopter, indicating that they were to head that way. As such, when he said “leave us alone”, he really meant “start up the helicopter while I distract him. I won’t be long.”
