Kadaj paused a moment as Cloud stated that he would kill him, before, without warning, bursting out laughing. Or giggling, depending on how you thought of it. And then, just as suddenly as the cold, cutting laughter had started, it was cut short, and Kadaj dropped into an offensive stance, raising Souba in front of him.
"Feel free to try, brother!" the childish note in his voice once more.
The whispers in his mind, the driving force behind his actions, the promise of something better at the end of this quest of destruction... The burning rage against Sephiroth and this treacherous brother, and the euphoria of being so close to retrieving the item that mother wanted... The feelings were utterly boundless, lacking the careful control that would be expected in an adult... It combined to such an intoxicatingly heady mixture that it was as if NOTHING mattered but this... but him and Cloud and the Black Materia.
"You can kill us all! All the children of Jenova! All our brothers! But you'll never be free, because you are one of us!"
((Rofl I think Kadaj lost it...))

This was it...if Cloud ever needed a miracle or some kind of luck he needed it right now. He didn't have a 'real' weapon to fight with against Kadaj, the elevator was 'out of order' preventing escape...and he doubted he could hide, especially with such a raw source of evil magic in his torso. If anything, Kadaj would still get to him no matter which option he took. Sweating a little from the awkward situation he was currently placed in, Clou took a few steps backward to make some sort of gap between himself and the duo-blades of Souba.
"...one of us, how insulting of him...you're just a failure." whispered Sephiroth's voice. Cloud dropped nailbat in almost an instant and clasped his head with his right hand, stratled by the voice suddenly appearing again after almost a week of silence. Holy, blessed silence.
"I'm not one of you!"

The remnant narrowed his eyes at Cloud as the blonde dropped his weapon. But it wasn't the ex-SOLDIER's actions that concerned him - Kadaj already knew that he was insane. It was the fact that, a moment before Nailbat clattered to the floor, Kadaj could have sworn he had sensed Sephiroth.
For a moment, he lowered Souba, glancing around the street, back towards the dock, ahead in the direction of the lift... Even upwards, at the tops of buildings, at the sky. No one-winged angel...
Then why...?
Cloud's shouted statement drew his attention back to him. Lifting Souba once more, the remnant stepped towards the blonde, closing the gap that Cloud had put between them. Without his weapon, the ex-SOLDIER had no chance. In an instant, Kadaj had Souba held against Cloud's throat.
"You are one of us, brother... Even if you're a traitor... You have mother's cells... You belong to her, just like I do, just like Loz and Yazoo and... Sephiroth..." he hesitated. He could sense the one-winged angel... But where?
Then his eyes widened slightly, his head tilting to one side as he stared at Cloud. And for an instant, he saw Sephiroth. "He's... he's inside you? How?"
Sephiroth surpassed him for mother's attention... and now someone else who had the capacity to become the one-winged angel? Would he become completely useless? The anger surged in him. "NO! That's not how it's supposed to be!"

As Pledge trudged through Lower Junon, he breathed out a sigh. He never believed he would be retracing his steps towards Cosmo Canyon like this... Hopefully, he would catch up to the man that he was following before he actually reached his old home. Surely he would.
It had taken longer than he had expected to get here. A good 48 hours, if not more. The Chocobos caught on the Grasslands south of Kalm had allowed he and Aerith to reach the Mythril Mines easily enough, but from there they had had to continue on foot. The mines, as always, were teeming with monsters. And then, after a long trek across the Junon plains, they had reached Fort Condor, hoping for a break and to purchase supplies... only to find everyone inside slaughtered... murdered. Steeling himself against the stench of death and already-decomposing flesh, he had examined the bodies to see what had actually caused their deaths.
Blunt impact injuries, broken bones... these people had all been blugeoned to death, with something like... Like a nailbat.
They hadn't been able to remain in Fort Condor for long. The people there had all been dead too long for Phoenix Downs to have any effect. The stench, and the mere sight of such a massacre, had made him physically sick. Throwing up had made him feel weak and shaky, and even as he struggled to make it the rest of the way to Junon, he had nearly succumbed to the monsters on the plains.
He had hardly spoken to Aerith the entire way here. It was just how he was, he spoke very little unless he had something important to say. But as they approached the lift to the Upper Junon main street, he slowed. There were guards posted there, and not the usual guards. They looked like guards from ShinRa... the ones associated with the Turks. Glancing sideways at Aerith, he approached the guards warily.
"Lift's closed," one of the men snapped, before Pledge could say anything. "Out of order."

Aerith had no reaction to those who we're slaughtered, all she did was say a simple prayer hoping their souls would find peace in the lifestream. As they continued on,the stench from the dead bodies made her stomach queasy.Being alive again she had forgotten that smell of decomposing flesh, covering her nose and hoping she would not throw up trying to keep her cookies down.
She had to help with the monsters along the plains, when he had glanced at her she said nothing.Saddness seemed to fill her eyes at the momment, she just wanted to find Cloud and maybe just maybe one of the remnants or Sephiroth himself.Walking behind Pledge she stopped, when one of the guards had spoken saying the lift was out of order.
"You must let us through,it is very urgent we find someone.I know Rufus personally,so please let us go up the lift or tell us another way around".

"I doubt you know the President, Missy," the guard retorted, looking a little disgruntled. "And either way, there's no access to Upper Junon. It's been ordered closed by the Shinra Department of Administrative Research."
"The Turks," Pledge muttered under his breath, thinking quickly. He may be quiet and moody and frequently suicidal, but Pledge was not stupid, and his logic was one of his greatest strengths. What would the Turks have to gain from closing off Junon? Apart from stopping people from entering... and leaving...
"The Turks are after the Black Materia?" he half-whispered to Aerith, careful that the guards didn't hear him. "I think..."
He trailed off, gazing around Lower Junon thoughtfully. This was an awkward situation. He didn't trust Shinra, thanks to the stories that Nanaki had told him... and he knew Cloud was dangerous. He didn't even want to consider what kind of chaos might result from this.
"Did a blonde man pass through here earlier? Very spikey hair," he said suddenly, and by the suspicious look on the guard's face, knew immediately that the answer was yes. "I have something that belongs to him. It's of the utmost importance that it reaches him before he leaves Junon..."
As the guard glared at him, Pledge kept his calm demeanour and his expression deadly serious. "Please, it's a matter of life and death."
The guard shifted uncomfortably. He didn't get to hear what this whole operation was about, but he'd caught rumours about the blonde, spiky-haired man, who was specifically the ONLY person they were authorized to allow past, supposedly possessing something that Shinra wanted. What if... what if this odd green-haired youth had the item that Shinra was looking for, and he turned him away? If that was the case, his job would surely be forfeit.
A long, awkward pause followed as he considered, and then nodded, reluctantly. "Alright, alright."
He pulled out a cell phone, passing on the order to reconnect the power to the lift, with a few hurried explanations. After a moment, he glanced up at Pledge and Aerith, stepping aside and nodding towards the lift. "Hurry up, then."
((REALLY bad and terribly rushed post... just for the sake of posting something... xD ))

The steady yet polite drone of the chopper was lost to Rufus as it propelled him across the countryside. Its unending melody dominated the interior of the transport, yet it refused to reach the ears of its primary cargo. The new president had no time to consider listening; not when he was so close to obtaining the Black Materia. By comparison, all else was trivial at best. Had he received a call informing him that the WEAPONs had gotten back up and brought new WEAPON-esque friends, he would probably reply “I’ll look into that later” in an absent manner.
Rufus was not sure what he would do with the Black Materia when he finally had it. Prevent it from being used, sure, but how? Some sort of vault with no records left behind, or maybe plunge it into the depths of the ocean. He would destroy it if he knew how. Could Materia be destroyed? As a byproduct of Mako, maybe there was a certain chemical substance that could dissolve it. He would have to address his research personnel on the matter when he had what he needed. That was the most important part, after all; that he have it. Under normal circumstances he might entrust the pieces to Cloud, but recent reports on the man had him troubled. He could not be trusted at the moment, most especially not with something as globally hazardous as the Black Materia.
With a start, Rufus realized that he had arrived. The helicopter began to descend as the structures of Junon sprang up below. Multiple points could be seen in the distance of Upper Junon; the trap in motion, no doubt. Most of those present would be men under his employment. What worried him, however, were those who were not. Cloud had friends just as powerful as himself, and if they were present they would be an obstacle. He felt inner relief when he saw that no such companions were on the scene.
“This is fine. Set us down here.”
The pilot complied, taking a pass over the harbor before looping back for a landing. With a sort of grace typically unseen in the average military vehicle, the chopper touched down. The blond president waited hardly a second to slide open the door, stepping out onto the hard steel. “Mr. President!” urged one of his armed lackeys back on the helicopter. “Are you sure you do not want us to follow?” Rufus half-turned, giving a quick nod in response. “I should be fine here.” He strode away from his means of transport without a second word, the wind generated by the propeller whipping his hair and jacket about. Not only were his own guards around, but there was a Turk present as well. He expected additional Turk staff to arrive soon enough as well. He was safe enough here.

(Late post, and I am REALLY sorry about it. I got a badass video game for christmas and can't stop playing it. I'll try to be on more often like before!)
Cloud's eyes widened, easing the grip on his head before letting out a startled grunting sound at Kadaj's sudden attempts to get close again. This time, he got a little TOO close for the blonde's liking.
"You can call me what you want, but I would NEVER be like you or your kind! You're heartless monsters!!" Cloud roared angrily, his eyes dilating to cat-like slits in his fury.
"Sephiroth...the puppet master..." Cloud growled to himself, clenching his left fist tightly "I have to hide, before it happens again." he muttered angrily to himself before glaring at Kadaj with narrowed eyes, if he had any weapons on him right now then he'd have launched into combat right away at this point. But he had nothing.
"Moron, you have one of the most deadly weapons on this planet embedded in your torso. Why don't you USE it?" Sephiroth's voice mocked, almost as if trying to make Cloud do the very thing he swore not to do.
"Use the black materia." the voice echoed in Cloud's mind, causing him to slam both his hands over his eyes and scream in agony. It was happening again, the very same thing that happened in Fort Condor...the build up to the massacre. Cloud flung himself backwards, causing himself to fall over and onto his back...still sheilding his eyes from something. Over the course of a few weeks, the blonde had discovered something about this 'split-personality' problem...it seemed that when he saw/heard something that got him angry he would 'switch' personalities. If he heard what Kadaj was saying but never saw him, then this wouldn't happen. Cloud's eyes where the trigger for the monster inside of him. After screaming for whatever was attacking him mentally to stop, and the entrance of Rufus on the chopper seemed to have no effect on the blonde and his frantic attempts to block out Sephiroth's influence. But just like with when this happened with Pledge, Cloud suddenly falls silent...removing the sheild of his hands away from his eyes, breathing heavily as if badly wounded. He rolled onto his side and got back up, excpecting Kadaj to be there and ready to attack...but so was he...
"You want the materia, then maybe you should sample some of it's raw power first." Cloud growled angrily, in an almost 'clashed' voice...of his own and Sephiroths.
"Although a puppy like you wouldn't be able to handle such raw power, of course."

If it hadn't been for the sudden arrival of a chopper, bearing no other than the President of the Shinra Company himself, when Cloud had thrown himself backwards and fallen, he would not have been getting back up again. As it was, the remnant hesitated, momentarily lowering Souba and turning away from the blonde. Lifting an arm to shield his face from the dust kicked up by the whirling propellor, he glared at Rufus as he stepped out of the helicopter. So, he'd obviously undestimated just how much Shinra wanted to get his hands on the Black Materia, if he would come here in person... Reno he could deal with, but if Rufus was here, then inevitably, more of his lackeys would be on the way.
Overwhelming... the sense that Sephiroth was HERE... and he turned his bewildered expression on Cloud as the ex-SOLDIER clambered to his feet... and then spoke... with a voice that was almost that voice. He even used Sephiroth's nickname for him, and a sudden blind rage closed about the remnant, almost blacking out his senses in its potency.
If Cloud was becoming Sephiroth... then mother wouldn't need him... He had already failed before... did this mean he was not getting a second chance? Had mother discarded him and turned to a new son to do her bidding? Even if that son was a traitor...? His fist tightened around the hilt of Souba until it was painful, and his knuckles were white underneath the black leather of his gloves.
"I won't allow you to replace me," his voice was low, and shook slightly as though with surpressed emotion. He seemed to have forgotten the Materia momentarily, far more concerned with this ever-strengthening whisper of Sephiroth that he sensed. One puppet master was enough... He didn't need two one-winged angels who were able to control him so effortlessly. Cloud had to die before this got any further. The Black Materia must...
The Black Materia...
Kadaj's eyes dropped to Cloud's chest as he felt that intense, dark energy spike, as though the Materia was becoming charged. Could the Materia still summon Meteor even though it was in pieces? Moreover, did Cloud possess the power to use that Materia?
"Don't be a fool, brother," he half-snarled. "That Materia won't listen to you. It belongs to mother, and you are nothing but a traitor." He seemed to be struggling to convince himself of that. No, surely Cloud wasn't replacing him... Surely mother wouldn't...
"Give it to me!" he snapped suddenly, flinging himself at Cloud. The twin blades of Souba flashed blood red in the setting sun as he brought the weapon arcing round to slash at the ex-SOLDIER...

He wouldn’t admit it – of course he wouldn’t – but Tseng was worried. Reno had contacted to him around 48 hours previously to report that he had discovered the location of Black Materia shards. Immediately the plans had been laid down for a trap to corner Cloud in order to recover the shards… But he was doubting his wisdom in putting Reno in charge of it. When Reno had reported everything fully operational, his words had been slurred and halting, and he was quite clearly drunk.
Drunk. On-duty. He would have to be disciplined for that.
Since then, however, there had been no contact from the red-head, and he hadn’t answered Tseng’s calls. Which meant that either he’d lost his cell phone, or he was still drunk. Or both.
As the chopper neared Junon, and the scene on the streets below came into view below, he frowned. So, Cloud was already here, and Kadaj, as well. The memories of his torture at the hands of Kadaj’s gang were still unpleasantly fresh in his mind, even though that had been some years ago now. Reno was nowhere in sight. But none of this concerned him more than the fact that the President was already here… and there was nobody with him. Obviously he must have given orders to the guards who had flown in with him not to follow him, but it was disconcerting. Even if Cloud and Kadaj were preoccupied with each other.
He guided the helicopter down to land at an acceptable distance from the one already present, glancing sideways at the Turk seated next to him – the quiet man named Frieden – and giving him a brief nod before removing his headset and stepped out of the helicopter. He shouldn’t need to say anything, their objectives were perfectly clear: 1, protect the President, at all costs, and 2, retrieve the Black Materia, at all costs.
Without waiting for Frieden, he strode to Rufus’s side. Well, he’d spotted Reno, anyway. Cowering behind a bench. Drunk. Surprise, surprise. The red-head was growing lazy and incompetent lately. Something really should be done about him.
“Sir,” he gave a respectful bow to the President, before turning to survey the stand-off between Cloud and the silver-haired remnant of Sephiroth. “I’m afraid we have no further intelligence on the actual location of the shards. Reno has been…” he hesitated. He knew Shinra didn’t appreciate excuses. And certainly he wouldn’t be too happy to hear about Reno’s… negligence. Tseng would deal with that himself.
“We’re… working on it, Sir.”

Frieden sat up against the seat of the helicopter, his arms folded and his eyes closed as if in rest. If anything, he was simply steeling himself for what was to come. Cloud Strife was the man who had defeated Sephiroth and had been among those who successfully opposed ShinRa. Kadaj was an equally dangerous man, having faced Cloud in the past and orchestrated quite a bit of trouble during the reconstruction of Midgar. Now these two individuals would be gathered in the same place again, fighting for the same object that ShinRa desired. By no means would this be pretty.
Feeling the copter’s motion focus downward rather than forward, the sword-totting Turk shifted his focus to his surroundings. It seemed that they had arrived at their destination. Sure enough, the congregation of ShinRa employees could be seen with the blond and silver haired swordsmen. Receiving no more than a nod from Tseng, he exited the helicopter and followed in his approach to the President.
Frieden positioned himself opposite of Tseng, so that they were flanking the President. He did not speak up, but adjusted his glasses and took note of his surroundings. First were Cloud and Kadaj. This would be his first time seeing either in person, if he was not mistaken. That sword is quite familiar though. It almost resembles the one used by Zack. Hmph, to think that anyone could use such an ugly weapon.... Next, of course, was Reno. As was expected, the man seemed to be hiding. How he had made it as a Turk was a mystery. Ignoring the red-haired imbecile for the time being, Frieden turned his attention back to the twin hazards, who seemed to have only begun their clash.
(Aw man, that looked longer when I was typing it!)

Cloud felt it deep within...the burning sensation of the dark force...the highly concentrated negative energy flaring up inside of his chest. There was a slight tingling sensation running down the blonde's spine, and he couldn't help but deliver a scheming smirk towards the highly frantic remnant. He would feel his power, to it's fullest.
"But you're still weak, so don't overdo it." he thought, as he swayed backwards in just the right moment to avoid Kadaj's swing...a gentle breeze almost carrying the sinister looking blonde away from the threat of Kadaj's blade in one swift jump. A light tap to the concrete a few steps away, left palm laid on the grey surface and the right bent backwards as if he was reaching for his beloved sword. But he grasped nothing but the the air behind him, raising his head to glance upwards at his previous attacker to deliver the same smirk.
"Feel my burning rage!" Cloud roared, clenching his raised hand into a tight fist...the wind picking up around the clenched hand darkned and condensed into a bright aura...which Cloud threw forwards as he got to his feet...aiming the power directly at Kadaj.
"SHADOW FLARE!" he howled, releasing the dark spell. Once the energy left his body, Cloud felt it....he felt the coldness within overflow the burning rage he once had, and then a white light flooded his vision...a swell of pain rushed to his head and heart, but then became numb and weak...his muscled twitched in spasms of pain and faded into being useless, unable to be moved. And before he knew it, his entire body shut down. Some of his own lifeforce was used in that one attack, and he never even knew he used it. The materia needs that-strong a host....Cloud was already weakened when he used it, so it was only normal for that to happen. The blonde gasped in shock before falling face first onto the ground, his eyes still open and blood lightly trickled out the corner of his mouth...and he was white as a sheet and elt cold to the touch.
"You're a moron, I told you not to overdo it." Sephiroth's voice mocked as it's host lay there...unconscious. Defenceless.
(crappy post, BTW. Cloud's had a seizue. So he's ripe for the taking, Kadaj!)

Reno had been hiding behind that bench all this time, nervous and slightly confused over what was happening. He remembered ome 10 minutes ago...but forgot again....and then all he thought of was where his tequilla went. All he knew was that if he didn't move or say anything then he'd be much safer, because he also seemed to have lost several of his tools once he started to drink. His Celphone was missing, again...and he had 'misplaced' his EMR (shortened Electro-Mag Rod to EMR) not to mention his defensive materia. All he had on him was Choco-mog and some regular gear....and a stick he found. Just when he thought all forms of being any safer where gone (since it was obvious the bench wasn't going to protect him from magic) Tseng, Rufus and Frieden turned up in a Helicopter. If he was sober, Reno would have stayed put...but he was drunk. VERY drunk.
"It's a free-for-all!!" Reno whined in a panic before running behind Tseng, almost as if he was in the trenches in the middle of a war...and Tseng was the trench, providing cover from the bombs. The red-head was crouched behind the Wutainese man, hid arms covering his flaming-red hair as if to protect himself from anything falling from the sky. But, ofcourse, all the attacks where directed at Kadaj and where aimed in a direction OTHER than down from the sky. He didn't move, and just maintaind that frozen posture as if he was scared stiff. The 'sober Reno' (if that even exists) would have done the same thing...but remained behind the bench, AWAY from the real danger. His boss.

If Kadaj weren’t consumed by his own jealousy and rage, he might have thought before he threw himself after Cloud, when the blonde leapt away. He could feel the dark energy flaring from the Black Materia… yet that was the last thing on his mind, even after what the blonde had said before. He drew Souba back, ready to strike…
And then Cloud yelled something he forgot to listen to, and something… something dark… struck him with such force that his senses seemed to shut down – his vision going black and even the sound of his own surprised cry failing to reach his ears – and he was thrown backwards, crashing into the ground and skidding a short distance.
For a moment, he lay there, unmoving; his body wracked with pain and struggling to breathe after the air had been crushed from his lungs. His eyes were closed, and he might have appeared unconscious if it wasn’t for the obvious physical effort to draw breath.
Slowly, painfully, he moved… rolling from his back onto one side and pushing himself up onto his feet. He staggered a little, swaying unstably… but he seemed to be all in one piece. There was a metallic taste on his tongue. He lifted a gloved hand to his mouth, and when he pulled it away again, there was blood on the black leather. His left hand was empty… where was Souba…? He must have dropped it when the magic hit him.
His cat-like eyes focused on Cloud’s unmoving form. So, the Black Materia had been too much for him to handle?
“…Tch.”
The remnant strode towards the unconscious man, ignoring the pain in his battered body, stooping to pick up Souba on the way. He paused for a moment, standing over the blonde, and then his face twisted into a malicious smirk. There was a heavy thud as his booted foot met with Cloud’s ribs, and what may have been the crack of breaking bone…
Crouching, he rolled the ex-SOLDIER over onto his back carelessly, his face lit with malice and childish delight. He didn’t hesitate. Why should he?
Lowering Souba to Cloud’s chest, he slashed through his clothing, and the flesh of the blonde’s chest… creating a gaping wound. The remnant gave a short laugh, not caring now that the Turks, and ShinRa himself, would see the location of the shards… it didn’t matter, they were his now. All his.
Forcing his fingers into the wound, it didn’t take long for him to find what he was looking for. He knew when he touched a shard, as the invisible, burning energy shot up his arm, filling him with… not power, but the promise of power. His fingers closed about it, and he drew it out.
He lifted his hand, staring at the dark fragment he held… covered in blood, and looking really like nothing special… it might well have been just a shard of black glass. But the energy… He held it up higher, so the burning red of the setting sun caught it, and smirked at the swirl of darkness that was just visible within its vaguely translucent form.
This, this was how things should be. The Black Materia shards belonged to him now. And what’s more, he now had three, compared to Sephiroth’s two.
“Do you see, mother? I am worthy of your love…”
He lowered the shard, pressing it… not against his arm, with the rest of the Materia he owned, but into his chest. That just seemed… right. There was intense pain, and he gasped at the feeling of the dark energy coursing through him, paralyzing him… but gradually, the pain faded, and he was left only with a feeling of…
Power…
If this was only one shard, what would three feel like…?
The other two shards were much deeper in Cloud’s chest, inside his ribcage. He would have to break the blonde’s ribs to remove them… and they were so close to vital organs… There was almost no doubt that Cloud would die. But that didn’t matter. Not to Kadaj…
((Leaving it there ‘cause obviously I can’t kill Cloud and I’m gonna intercept with Tseng. xP
God this post is terrible. xD))

As soon as they had been granted access to the lift, worry came over Aerith's body hoping she wasn't too late.As they went up the lift her eyes kept upwards until the lift stopped, she didn't want to wait for Pledge and got off as soon as they arrived at the top.Something inside her was telling her to rush, that feeling as if something terrible had happened and she was needed right now.Her feet we're running foreward as she came to the scene,Rufus was here also Tseng, and Reno but she didn't care about them.
Ignoring them completely Aerith ran past them, stopping dead in her tracks at what awaited her next. She had been too late, there in front of her lay a unconcious Cloud, and standing over him was Kadaj holding up a piece of the black materia. She rushed over and kneeled down beside Cloud,he was badly injured and if something wasn't done he was going to die.
"KADAJ how could you be so heartless,I will never let you harm Cloud or anyone I care for".
Tears had come to her eyes, she threw herself over Cloud's chest to keep the remnant from getting the two other shards.Aerith knew it was a risk, she would throw everything away for Cloud even her life again. Why was this happening, all for power and to destroy the planet she would never allow it.Her eyes glanced towards the turks and Rufus, but they didn't remain on them for long as she looked back to the remnant.
"Leave......LEAVE NOW,take that shard and leave I will not allow you to destroy the person I care for".
